Costume Design

Renate Schmitzer studied costume design in Cologne. After working for several theatres and opera houses in Cologne, Dortmund and Ulm she’s working as a free lance costume designer for international productions of operas, plays and ballets.

Her international credits include Antwerp, Basel, Berlin, Bremen, Catania, Essen, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Copenhagen, Cologne, Munster, Munich, Paris, London, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Vienna, Zurich and Muscat/Oman, where she was working with famous directors such as Juri Lubimov, Peter Mussbach, Stefan Herheim, Giancarlo del Monaco, Klaus Emmerich, Dietrich W. Hilsdorf and Jean Louis Martinoty.

Renate Schmitzer has worked on operas including Der Meister und Margarita, Saul, Krieg und Frieden, La Traviata, Der Fliegende Holländer, Meistersinger, Alceste, Peer Gynt, Rusalka, Falstaff, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor und Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Her experience of musicals and operettas includes productions such Jekyll und Hyde, Candide, My fair Lady, Victor und Victoria, Die lustige Witwe, Von morgens bis Mitternacht and Die Cardasfürstin. Latest productions were Falstaff in Cologne, Attila in Bonn and Fürst Igor in Vienna. Currently she is working on Von morgens bis Mitternacht in Linz and a production of Wagner‘s Ring at the Deutsche Oper in Düsseldorf
